Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride is like a coat of armor for your teeth

For a fluoride treatment, we use a sticky varnish to paint onto the surfaces of your teeth.  The treatment delivers a high dose of fluoride directly where it is applied.  In the right situation, fluoride treatments have proven to be an effective part of treating and fighting decay .  Fluoride disrupts bacteria that cause decay.  It also makes teeth strong, so they can stand up to decay.

There are several different situations where fluoride treatments have proven to be most effective:

Children at risk of decay
The varnish used in fluoride treatments has been shown to reverse early decay.  It also stops the progression of enamel decay in primary and permanent teeth.

Orthodontics and Braces
After braces come off, fluoride treatments can help treat white spot legions that can develop on teeth.

Dry Mouth Syndrome
Saliva is a vital and natural way your body works at fighting decay.  There are hundreds of medicines that cause dry mouth.  When your natural protection is decreased, fluoride varnish can be an effective supplement.  Everyone with dry mouth is susceptible to root decay under old fillings and crowns.  Root decay moves fast and can be catastrophic for a tooth.  Fluoride treatments can help protect vulnerable, exposed root areas.

Patients who have had head and neck radiation
Radiation can kill the saliva glands that are so important at fighting decay in your teeth.

Adults at moderate risk of decay
Adults who have three areas of early decay or who have had any fillings in the last three years would benefit from a fluoride treatment.

At Comprehensive and Cosmetic Dental Studio of Greenville, we are focused on the prevention of disease and fighting decay.  We will assess your risks and the possible benefits of fluoride treatments.

Blood Drive

Open House and Blood Drive
On Saturday, September 22, Comprehensive and Cosmetic Dental Studio of Greenville will host a blood drive at our location in the North Main Community.  The bloodmobile will park at the corner of North Main Street and Stone Avenue, across from Rite-Aid.  The Blood Connection will set up on site from 9:30am – 1pm.

Everyone who donates receives a $20 Chick-fil-A gift card and a thank you gift from me.  We’re also hosting an open house at our dental office, so please stop by and meet our team.  We will be happy to answer your questions about family dental care and cosmetic treatments.

Why Blood Drives Are Important
As a family dental practice, we are focused on the overall health of our patients.  As a cancer survivor, I received multiple blood and platelet transfusions during treatment.  I am aware of the positive impact blood donation has on our community.

Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood.  That is an average of 36,000 units of red blood cells per day.  On average, patients with traumatic injuries need 45 units of blood.  Blood can’t be manufactured, it must come from donors.  The Blood Connection says one donation can save up to three lives.

Hurricane Florence has increased the need for blood in the Carolinas.  “We don’t yet know what the impact will be. Hospitals are already requesting extra blood and we expect to get requests from other areas that will be affected,” said TBC President and CEO Delisa K. English.

How Blood Drives Work
The Blood Connection staff can help put you at ease and answer your questions about the blood drive.  Allow about 45 minutes to sign in, begin your appointment and complete the process.  The actual donation time only takes 10 – 15 minutes.  You must weight at least 110 pounds and be at least 17 years old.  With parental consent, 16-year-olds can donate.
